Academy Ballet Classique specializes in ballet training and uses the ABT curriculum to develop beautiful and versatile dancers with strong technique and artistry. As well, ballet students develop excellent body awareness, poise, discipline and confidence. Ballet is essential for other complementary dance styles including lyrical, modern, contemporary and all theatrical dance which are offered at the student once proper technique is established. Ballet is even used as supplementary training for figure skaters, gymnasts and other athletics such as hockey and football. Once a solid technique is in place, skills may be further developed in the other complimentary dance styles. But, it is the ballet training and this foundational technique where body awareness and articulation as well as strength and flexibility are rooted. Here at the studio, a commitment to the program ensures that your child establishes a strong foundation for dance. We continue to offer exclusive programs this year that will nurture and develop young dancers. The programs are developed with child development and readiness in mind and include 1, 2 or 3 ballet classes per week to ensure continued growth and progression. It is highly recommended that students also opt to include the enhancement options and participate in extra opportunities when afforded and if possible request a third ballet class and/ private coaching.
Michele Hopkins, Artistic Director
-certified Dance and Pilates instructor
Michele Hopkins has an extensive background in dance as a performer, choreographer, teacher and director. Michele strives to continue to personally develop professionally and further develop her own skills in teaching, choreography and directing. After studying with the greatest ballet teachers in the world at ABT (American Ballet Theatre) in New York City, NBS (National Ballet School) as well as attending many seminars and classes in other dance styles in New York City and Toronto, Michele is thrilled to share her knowledge and training with her students. Michele will continue to incorporate the professional training standards and principles from the ABT National Training Curriculum into her work. After completing intensive examinations and achieving the certification in primary through to level 5, she believes this curriculum will greatly enhance the strength, flexibility, solid technique and artistry established at her school.
CAMBRIDGE - Local dancer Leila Hopkins, 10, has been accepted into the National Ballet School’s summer schedule.
Her admission follows a “nerve-racking” audition last winter in Waterloo. Few dancers from each audition have been selected to take part in the four-week Summer Intensive Ballet Program.
During the most recent competitive ballet season, Hopkins took part in her first Youth American Grand Prix, as well as a contest in Pittsburg, NY, where she placed in the top-12 for both classical ballet and contemporary.
Leila Hopkins dances under the direction of her mother, Michele Hopkins, at Academy Ballet Classique.
